take life back: simple ways to get back in the game

Hello there! How is the week for you?

We have started ballet again! This week we are starting school again! I have felt like over the summer, I have let routine slide and often just responded to life and let it control me! Sometimes I get a little lax and then it feels like life is running me over! I end up feeling a little bit like…Izzy Grace when she can’t quite make it through lunch time without a nap!

I have collected some quick and simple tasks to help with this to get back on track!

Sit up straight.

Get up early and don’t hit snooze.

Get your seven to eight hours of sleep.

Eat your veggies at lunch and supper.

Get some exercise (take a walk, take a class, lift weights).

Throw on some mascara and blush if that makes you feel better.

Wear something cute that feels put together. (For me, this doesn’t mean dressed up – at least a girly t-shirt and some shorts to be outside in but can also be appropriate for ballet drop-offs)

Trim and paint your nails.

Make a list for the day either the night before or morning of and cross stuff off that list (include your coffee and other fun activities).

Get doctor appointments scheduled.

Clear off kitchen counters. (In my dorm room, my desk was a big clutter collector)

Vacuum the carpets and make those vacuum cleaner lines that say “I am freshened up.”

Light a candle (I love to have one burning on the stove where it scents the entire downstairs and is out of reach of little hands).

Do something creative.

Keep your word.

Leave early for appointments to arrive early or at least on time without having to rush.

Say no when necessary and do a few things well. Nobody needs to be over-committed and super stressed out.

When we dress better, we feel better. When we feel better, we do better. Remember discipline always wins over motivation. Sometimes we must DO the action before we FEEL like doing it.

Even at home, these students dress for school, even just for the small commute from upstairs to downstairs.

Culture is big on “feels” but feelings aren’t always accurate or helpful. We just did dental visits, so dental hygiene is on my mind!  I don’t often feel like brushing my teeth before bed, but I always do it because I WANT the result of no cavities.

On a spiritual level, we have all had times where we must MAKE ourselves do certain things. It’s really hard in seasons of disappointment or waiting! I get it!

I was talking to my sister this week and in her frustration of looking for a job, she made herself get up each morning, she made herself get dressed up, she made herself go out, and it was hard. The good news is these seasons won’t last forever and God will carry us through. It took several months, but she has a job, a new apartment, and new state to live in! Hang in there, my dear friend, and watch what God is doing.

In the waiting, let’s do what we can do. Hanging in there with you!

Love,
Charis

When the kitchen chair breaks, it’s a bit of a disaster, but Krew and his toolbox to the rescue!
