pink coffee mugs
Happy Valentine’s Day, or Galentine’s Day, depending on who you are! I had no idea Galentine’s Day was a thing until a few weeks ago when my middle sister talked about it. I know, have I been? Living under a rock? My sister who lives near me, actually down the hall at the moment, is participating with me. We bought pink coffee mugs from the dollar section at Target to give each other Monday.
Tuesday, Valentine’s Day, I will be celebrating as well. We laughed yesterday, remembering our first Valentine’s Day married. He asked what I wanted to do, to which I replied, “Oh, I don’t know, nothing.” So he planned nothing. Yep, he learned an important lesson because when your wife says nothing, it really means something that you create and plan! Funny stuff! More funny today than that day!
With all this love talk in the air, it is most important to mention the most important love that exists – God’s love. The Creator of love and the only One with perfect love.
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear…1 John 4:18
In student worship on Wednesday nights, we are going through the Bible using the Gospel Project, going from Genesis to Revelation. Currently, we are in the book of Job. We often think that suffering is directly related to something we are doing wrong. We are learning that God does not punish us when we mess up and reward us when we are good. This makes sense with our worldly theology but it is not how God works. Actually, when we look at Job, the poor guy lost everything! Interestingly, nowhere in the book does it say that God was angry at Job. He was actually pleased with Job’s faithfulness.
I am so thankful God does not operate like my human mind does. I am glad His blessings are not related to whether I get life right nor not. I mess up plenty in a day, but thankfully, He loves me anyway and is patient with me.
The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.
Psalm 145:18
At the end of the day, many times, I feel like, wow, I really messed it up today. Should have been a better mom, been more patient, gotten more done, and the list goes on. I love this verse that reminds me that God is patient with us. I am so glad that we have His true, authentic love. His love never fails. Have a fantastic week. Enjoy your extraordinary ordinary. I will do the same. We will be using heart shaped cookie cutters to make hearts out of all our food and other fun stuff we can find. Highlight these verses in your Bible and remember His patient, perfect love.
Love,
Charis
