Lovely Lattice
Hellooooo there! How are ya? I finally finished some curtains I intended to make for Jenna when she was born last year…they’re done and hanging and that’s what counts! Coral-pink lovely lattice material to be descriptive in name. I will have to post a pic on instagram because I’m so proud. I felt super domestic! What have you been up to this week?
This week I just have one small idea that has been on my mind - simple and short but quite profound. I know everyone at any given moment has “stuff” going on, sometimes just more serious than at other times. I myself am not excluded, even at this given moment.
I must admit, I am a pinterest girl. I organize recipes that I use, along with clothing ideas, organization tips, hair ideas, and crafty projects for the future. I also love reading the Bible verses to bookmark. I came across one the other day that, honestly, I did not like very much, as strange as that sounds. It was a tough one to own.
“…and if not, He is still good.” Daniel 3:18
No matter the result of our prayers, and whether we received what we wanted or not, God is still good. When bad things happen, He is still good. When we get what we want, He is still good. When we are disappointed after we did not get what we want, He is still good.
I kind of acknowledged it was true, but kind of bypassed it and moved on. Yeeeeaaaah, that’s cool, but that’s too serious and I’ll come back to that later. I did not really want to think about it because I am praying for stuff that I want and, basically, really want it, and that is what it is. I want what I want. Anybody? I came across the verse again as a reminder and I actually took a moment to think about it.
In this passage, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego have taken a stand against King Nebuchadnezzar and refused to worship the false gods he was mandating. They said they would only worship the one true God, risking the punishment of a blazing furnace. They told the king that their God could rescue them from being killed in the furnace but even if He chose not to, they would still not worship the false gods. Their faith was admirable. It is also important to remember that these guys were real, ordinary people. They were also young. According to research, they were most likely teenagers! I love that there is no certain age to which we have to reach to stand for God or grow in our faith. Though they were young, they recognized that God is the one true God and that He is all-powerful and could rescue them. Their maturity was also shown in the way that they accepted His will as they trusted Him to know what was best for their lives. Read their story in Daniel 3 and let it change you! By the way, God did rescue them in a miraculous way…
We all have those disappointments in life. People you like don’t like you back. You did not get the job you wanted. Someone else was promoted when you really deserved it. People get sick. People disappoint. Life is not fair. Some of our friends had a precious little baby they held for just a few hours before they said goodbye. I prayed for God to heal that baby and allow him the gift of life. They posted pictures and acknowledged that, although they were heartbroken, God is still good. I stood in amazement because I was inspired at their faith.
Whatever you are praying for or waiting for, keep that faith. Pray for your desires but know that even if God does not answer as you wish, He is still good. He still loves you. He does not want good for you. He wants the BEST for you. Whether that guy asks you out or whether you get that job you want. He is still working for our good. Sometimes that is all there is to know at the moment.
Have a great week! The weather is getting warmer here, so I plan to spend some time outside giving our beloved three-legged German Shepherd some attention. We will probably collect some rocks and try to keep them out of the wee one’s mouth and find pinecones laying on the ground. You know, the usual stuff toddlers do outside. Talk to you soon!
Love,
Charis
